It may not feel like the first day of Spring today in the DMV, but the calendar says it is Spring! Along with the hope of better weather and longer days, comes the dreaded spring allergy season.  For many allergies can flare in the next several weeks. Talk to us about medications that can help lessen the severity of symptoms.  Unfortuanately there is not any medication or treatment  that can alleviate all allergy symptoms, but several are available to reduce their severity. Seasonal allergies usually begin after a second season of exposure, so more likely in kids over 2 years of age.

In addition to medications there are some simple things to do to help reduce pollen exposure.

*Have your child wash their hands and face as soon as they come in from playing outside so they don’t rub pollen in their eyes and nose. Or rinse them off in the shower or bath.

*Check the forecast for pollen levels, and limit outdoor activities when pollen counts are at their highest.

* Don’t hang laundry outside to dry. Pollen will accumulate on clothing fibers.

*Have your child take their bath at bedtime. This will help with nighttime allergy problems.

*Keep windows in your home and car closed and use air conditioning to filter the air. Make sure the air conditioner is on re-circulating mode.
